Our Mission:
Within the depths of the high school drama, a high school student can get themselves into, and all the academic workload or pressure one shoulders, Songbird Quartet was created in hopes of remembering our own personal goals. Our work relieves the stress of everyday lives and allows musicians like us to focus on something we're all passionate about: creating music. Violinist Connor Yang shares that our work puts "...something out there as opposed to only consuming what others produce". We soon realized music, live music especially, has the ability to bring together a diverse group of people. Our mission is to offer music that heals and connects everyone, and we hope our work can have a positive impact on your life.
Kiyone Tsuchida - Violist/Founder
"I'm a student at BVVA and also working to get my GE/1st year college completed; studying for an associate's degree at Fullerton College as a special admit student. This means I'll likely graduate high school with an associate's degree and a high school diploma. For my future, I want an MSW and a PhD in Music Education. This Quartet allows me to hold space for others and myself to have fun, chat, and make music. When I created this quartet, I was blindsided by the business aspect of it (collaborating, printing, promoting, social media, website, etc), but it's actually become beneficial to me as it reminds me of my purpose and life goals. I love being able to perform, and I believe we are allowing the general public access to hearing live classical music that they would otherwise have to make opportunities for themselves to hear. I started piano at age 5, and now, I'm a multi-instrumentalist with 13 years of experience playing in this quartet, orchestra, OCYS, jazz band, and marching band. To me, music is the world to me, and I can't imagine a day without it."
Ryan Hahm - First Violinist
"This quartet is something I can enjoy with my friends I've met and connected with through music, playing together, and practicing is splendid as it brings me joy and happiness. Music to me is a way I can escape the world, to explore and learn more, to gain a sense of accomplishment. I started playing music when I was in the 3rd grade, from a recorder to now a violin. Throughout my musical journey, I hope I have been able to spread and share this talent I have worked for, to give people the joy I feel when I play music."
Chloe Cho - Second Violinist
"Although I’ve played violin since I was 8, it was mostly for my own enjoyment and accomplishment as an extracurricular and hobby. However, through the Songbird Quartet, I realized that there’s so much more to music, and that it’s something to be shared, whether it’s with friends, family, or the public. Being in this group of fellow musicians broadened my horizons and took my musical journey to somewhere I never expected. Music is enjoyable for the listeners, but even more so for the players. I can confidently say I am grateful to have joined and hope to continue bringing a smile to people’s faces. "
Kyra Yamasaki - Second Violinist
"I've been playing the violin for about seven years, ever since I started in fourth grade. Most of my experience has been through my school orchestra, where I've developed both my technical skills and my love for making music. I enjoy both the challenge and creativity that violin offers, and I'm always looking for ways to grow as a musician. One of my favorite parts of making music is collaborating with others and learning from different perspectives. I’m excited for the opportunity to challenge myself, make meaningful music with others, and continue developing my passion for violin. "
Alea Andronaco - Cellist
"I've been playing the cello for about 5 years now, and it's helped me grow immensely. This quartet is a way for me to both enjoy time with friends while also allowing me to grow as a musician. By sharing my music with others, I hope to inspire joy in others and spread my passion for music to my community. I hope to continue this musical journey and share it with listeners along the way."
Former Songbirds - Connor and Mark
"Thank you Songbird Quartet! It has been an honor playing with all of you and we will never forget all of magical moments that make playing music worthwhile. Although we may no longer be members, we're still excited about the future of the quartet and are looking forward to seeing more fantastic performances with new members. We will miss playing with such a wonderful group.
Good luck with all of your musical ambitions,
Two former songbirds Connor and Mark"
